HI there,
I almost titled this all about pee. I have several questions that I'm hoping some of you have practical answers for.
After spending the weekend with mom and dad, it became obvious that mom is having some leaking problems during the day, she worries about going to the bathroom, goes alot. Also, I found sanitary pads in her purse( the kind for periods) . Ihave gathered from reading here that incontinence is a a normal part of AD, later stages. She will not talk about it.
Dad says she is using pads for leaking.
Is there a better product for wearing instead of depends diapers?( she would have a fit) A pad that is made for occasional urine leakage? Does anyone know?
Second, she had an appointment with a urologist yesterday. She had kidney stones last year. They did x-rays, blood and urine tests( yay- I've suspected infection) . She has a few more miniscule stones, and has to do what they called a 24 hour urine test. She has to collect her urine for 24 hours in a jar, then , put samples of this mixture in a specimen cup to take in.
Dad is freaked out about the logistics of mom having to do this. Can someone tell me if they know the purpose of this test? I have never heard of it before. Can they really get more info than in just a standard urine test and blood test?
Thanks so much- I know there are nurses out there!

Hi MS! In answer to the first part of your question both POISE and TENA make pads specifically for leakage, and they both have various levels of protection, from panty liners to heavy duty. Either can be purchased just about anywhere incontinence products are sold.

I can't address the second part of your question. But there are members who are nurses and I'm sure one of them will be by to help.

Good luck.

there are pull-up; briefs; diapers; incontinent pads, etc.!

The briefs look like real underwear! They feel soft and are very comfortable!

If mom was approached with several name brands to try on.....telling her this is to help her "not worry" is she has an accident. Tell her to add a pad at bedtime for more coverage.

My mom started out wearing briefs. They are very comfortable. She is now wearing the pull-ups.....which, I suppose could be worn under a cloth underwear.

My mom had leakage for years and wore Poise pads (Walgreens made a generic which was just as good and lots cheaper).

After a couple of bigger accidents, we started using Depends, but I bought a generic brand, because "Depends" still means "diaper" to my mom.

I had a rough couple of days convincing her to use them, but not as bad as I anticipated. She still wears underwear over the Depends, and we still call them pads.

She is not completely incontinent - some days are dry. I'm really glad we made the change before that's no longer the case. When she does have wetting accidents, she's still able to handle them relatively independently.
