All I can say is I did my best to improve the care for my Dad and take some of the burden off my Mother. It has been 3 long weeks of working with the Doctor on getting an assessment from home health care for my Dad who has about stage 6 of alzheimers. Mom is his main caregiver and she is 87 and is on a walker.
I went and talked with an eldercare lawyer and the minute my Dad get violent or abbusive he will be put in a nursing home. I just hope Mom doesn't get hurt in the process.
Talked with Mom today and Dad had his first bath given by an aide which is a major accomplishment. Finially Mom is agreeing to hiring help for house cleaning and realizes that she needs help with Dads care. He goes in and out of reality and sometimes gets very angry. I believe that he will have to be put in a home within 6 months, but I can't press Mom to do it yet. I'm heading back home to Florida feeling that I helped a little by getting Mom some in home help. Those of you who will please pray that Mom doesn't get hurt before she agrees to place Dad in a NH. Thanks for all your support, for reading this site helped me realize that she really needed help.

Carole,

I can relate to your long-distance caregiving. My mother was living alone in Alabama with my brother and I in Michigan. Sort of the reverse, heh? It's not easy when you can't jump in the car and be there in a few minutes.

I will defintely pray for you and your parents.

You put in some very intense time. Hopefully, things will go smoothly for awhile. I also will send prayers your way and for your mom & dad, too.

Gosh Carol, you really got alot accomplished in three weeks. I'm impressed!

I hope this goes well for your mother and father. Just getting assistance in the house should be a huge improvement.

Does your father see a Neurologist? Until my mother saw Neuro, there was no relief from her dread behaviors. Neither her attending nor psych was able to get things in line; but Neuro gave my Mom a new lease on the quality of her life.

Here's hoping that all your hard work pays off beautifully. Let us know how it's going. I'll be thinking of you.

Wow Carole,,you did great for such a short time! Kudo's to you. I hope all continues to go well or at least alot better for your Mom getting the help in there now.

I don't know where your folks live,,but if I can help,,I'd be happy to ,,,I live in Michigan,,on the West side of the state,,by Lake Michigan. If your folks live in the area,,I'd be happy to help your Mom in making or pursuing other needs in helping with your Dad.

Please keep us posted. Peace
