My dad is taking off his adult diapers at night. I've tried several kinds but it makes no difference. I've also checked out external catheters but I'm afraid he will pull that off too. Any suggestions?

Also, he is starting to urinate at inappropriate places (like the pantry, closet, etc). How do you handle this kind of behavior? Thanks to all, Bendy

I don't have an answer for you, but I'm dying to see if anyone has a solution because I have the same problem with my dad (taking the underwear off at night).

As for the inappropriate places... Dad used to do this too... when he was losing continence. Most of the chosen spots had to do with being a bit "out of the way" and being a LOT closer than the bathroom. He was unable to "hold it" until he made it to the bathroom... and even when he DID make it to the bathroom, he rarely got to the toilet in time. The sink got a real workout! The only thing that "worked" was for him to forget what the bathroom was all about... using his disposables at all times.

Oh! But his urologist had him taking "Enablex" for a while and that was starting to help until he completely forgot what the bathroom was for.

When this was an issue with my mom I began dressing her in pants that required her to unbutton them - a task she could not do without assistance. So whenever she had to go she couldn't go without me knowing about it and helping her. It was an easy fix. Do you think this would work for you?

There is a clothing site called Buck&Buck,,,and these clothes are specifically designed for people that are AD,and are always trying to get those adult undies off!!!! Since everything pulls over the head,,and closes up the entire back,,makes it pretty hard for our LO's to do what we "dont'"want them to do where they try to do!

Of course... if he won't wear clothes to bed... you have the same issue as me. All my life my dad has been a "natural" man... it was really scarey when I was in HS and college and had friends over in the evening! I guess I'm just lucky he gets in bed with the underwear now at least.

I have the same problem with my mother. And she must have some escape artist genes because she gets out of the Alz. pjs! They zip up the back but she manages to wriggle out of them everytime....so I've given up on that. If the undies get full she takes them off and gets back into bed au naturel on the bottom....so my game plan is to line the bed as much as possible with pads that can be soaked and washed....if I do it well I only have to wash them and her pjs and usually her pillowcase...and of course HER! I've come to recognize this as just another phase or dilemma that I will always have to deal with...

We have the same problem with BF's Mom. I often refer to her as Houdini.. What amazes me is she can get ehr pj's off and diaper off and her covers are still tucked tighly around her like they were when I put her in bed.. Even tried the button type pants and p.j. bottoms.. no luck.. she can't even begin to do those by herself during the day, but you put them on her at night and somehow she gets out of them. Even tried the ones taht have the really tiny buttons (even I had a hard time with them) and when I go in there to either get her up or stop her yelling in the middle of the night..

There she is.. naked as the days she was born, cold and laying in a wet bed.. Change the sheets, change the clothes, settle her back down.. 2 hours later.. Yep naked, wet and cold.. Never mind that she can't seem to dress or undress herself any other time..
