I'm hoping someone has had to deal with this particular situation or otherwise knows what I need to do. Here's the situation: my mom is living with me now but we want to have her buried in her home state. Can someone give me feedback on what this will all entail. Do 2 funeral homes need to be contacted - one here and one there, how is transportation arranged, etc. Any and all feedback regarding this unpleasant but necessary issue is greatly appreciated. I want to do as much preplanning as I can so it's not more difficult when it needs to be done. Thanks for your help!

Serenity,
My FIL had a similar situation. He contacted a mortuary in the town where he lived. Made arrangements to have his body cremated and shipped to the cemetary in the state he wanted to be buried in. The cemetary needed to have payment to open the crypt and inter the ashes. When my MIL dies, she will be buried in the same cemetary plot. The same mortuary will handle the arrangements, cremate her body, etc. I believe now she cannot be shipped by UPS as Pop was, so my husband will be transporting her and having her interred. If you have questions about the process, contact the social worker of the hospice you choose, and you should be given some information how to proceed. It isn't as difficult as it seems.
