This is priceless ,to me ,and I will always remember this day! It is the perfect Autumn afternoon under a Carolina Blue Sky.I've been raking leaves with Mom,at my side. In the distance,I could hear the familiar "whir" of
the Goodyear Blimp approaching Charlotte. It's Race Week!!! The Blimp is hovering very low and directly over my house and you can see the pilot and camera crew...Mom is jumping up and down... My dear friend owned the #1 Nascar Team,in the 80's,and Bobby Allison and Daryl
Waltrop were two of his drivers. Nascar Fans will remember ....Sadly,he passed away, a few years ago, of AD. His wife used to rake leaves with him, at her side. Memories of the great times, travels and winning Races all came flooding back to me. He,like Mom,became so "childlike" when the Blimp came over our homes.
I'm rambling and thinking aloud,I know, but to think of him ,this afternoon, and see the excitement on my little Mother's sweet face...........
well......It is one of the most precious moments of my life and I shall never see that Blimp, again, without remembering..........

Dear Shirlee,

I have not posted here for quite awhile, but I have been reading and catching up as much as I can. Today your post caught my eye, and made my day as I read it. You see, my sweet little mom was a true Nascar Fan. There was not a week gone by that we didn't watch every race, and race related show. She was a Dale Earnhardt fan to the core, and sadly after he passed, she continued on to cheer for his son Jr. I can picture you and your mom out raking leaves, seeing the blimp, and I can feel her excitement, and feel the love you both share. My mom is now in a dementia care facility. She no longer remembers Nascar, or much else...but every weekend, I still tell her whats going on in the racing world.
Thank you so much for sharing this moment with us, and thank you for inspiring me to come back to the boards. I am looking forward to qualifying this afternoon!!! Wink Wink Smiler

a friend,
Pat

We've had the blimp come over our house once or twice. It is neat to see. I remember the first year my husband and I were married, late at night a hot air balloon went over our house. Our dog was outside and he went nuts when they fired the engine. Barked like it was some giant firey bird.
Thanks for causing me to recall that.

These moments are little gifts from God! He is telling us that he loves us, and giving us things that we can hold onto when our LOs are gone.

What a lovely story -- thanks for sharing your joy in the moment.

My youngest grandson, age 3, calls the Goodyear blimp a "balloomp". Too funny.
