As sad as this disease is there are things that happen that you have to laugh at. Just a few of these things I have found.
While on a trip to San Fran. we had a room with twin beds. During the night I heard Bill, my husband, moving around and ask him to get in bed with me. He crawled in and cuddled up real close, started telling me how nice I was, then he ask me if his wife was there, too. I went along with it for awhile and he told me he had left her at home so he could be alone with me. All of a sudden he likes to put my shirts and pants on. He has put my underware on, maybe then he sat instead of stand when he used the bathroom. One day I heard him in the bedroom and he come out with a pair of my pants on. They were about 6" to small around but he was pulling as tight as he could. As he stood there he said "I didn't think I had gained that much weight. None of my pants will fit anymore." I went into the bedroom and every pair of my pants were laying on the bed. He had tried on every pair. How can we not laugh at times. Last week the doctor wanted to talk to him alone and then he called me in. During our conversation he ask Bill "We had a good conversation didn't we?" With all sincerety, Bill said, "I don't remember." Even the doctor laughed. I guess we have to look at the humerous things. It's better than crying. I wish you enough Joyce 43 |

Joyce,
Okay I'm typing through the tears. And yes we do have to laugh sometimes. I know that there are days that I get so tired of crying. Peace and happiness, Gale "there can be no rainbow in the soul, without a tear in the eye" Indian proverb always on my mind, forever in my heart..gts |

Joyce~
These truly had me LOL!! Shared them with my husband & some other's close to me that understand what can happen. So glad that you found the time to laugh in the midst of the tears. I remember one of the AZ counselor's telling me (about this disease) is to "find the laughter in some things"... it will make it so much easier on the toughest of days. My sister & I seem to be practicing that in between panic. Thx for sharing your stories. bb girl |

MMy MIL always had tissue pushed up her sleeves. Imagine everyone's (including her's), surprise, when she had to blow her nose, and she pulled out a COOKIE!

Winter on the beach.
I found a little place called Oceanside RV park, with just sand dunes to walk through, and your on the beach. 350 a month plus electric. About a dollar a day for electric plug hookup. I have a small space heater, one of those that looked like an old steam radiator but with oil, a hot plate and camp stove, and now my computer running a lot because of this wireless connection to the Internet. My shifter should shield me from AC effects. It would seem, many times we give of ourselves/pay a price, sacrifice, in order to help others. Always, this is what we wager/risk/offer. I think a couple weeks of broadcasting my ideas on the Internet, in between walks on the beach, could be relaxing after packing and driving for the past month or so. And I have started telling people around here about my research. So, let's see how long it is until, my wireless access is cut off because of complaints, or maybe, genuine interest by the community. Well, will see. I'm going to try to relax. Hope there ain't no tidal wave. During low tide, you can walk out around natural rock walls/jetties and get to other expanses of beaches. After being cooped up in the truck for the last week, I think the dog likes it too. A little frost on the windshield the other day, and it shouldn't get that cold too often. I haven't seen much rain and fog, but there's a lot of plant life here compared to the desert, and this area is known for high rainfall. More so to the north. Take care, and remember, "When your not conscious, your part of the dream." And, "Animals mainly die from not working together against death." |

yesterday as my sister entered the nursing home, a nurse's aid warned her not to be surprised when she saw mom. apparently, the activities director had nail painting day for the patients. mom, now an experienced kleptomaniac, had swiped a bottle of bright orange/red nail polish. she applied the polish to her lips and brow bones. when my sister found mom, she was behind the nurses station smiling and having a wonderful time. just goes to show what a little "makeup" can do for the ego!

Mine is just a little story...my MIL had lived with us for a bit until our neighbors found her 2 weeks ago..on Valentines Day...in a snowbank !!!! We're waiting for a nursing home bed to open, but until then...we wait. I brought her some homemade banana bread the other night (one of her favs!!!!). As I was handing it to her, I forgot the name of the bread.....she said "Oh my God, I hope this isnt catching !!!" WOW !!!!!!!!!!! I love my mother-in-law !!!

My mom and I sat in her backyard this weekend and she turns to me and says do you see that squrrel on the telphone wire and I said yes, she says well that squirrel goes over to that orange tree grabs a orange and goes back to the telphone wire and sits there and peels the orange with it's claws and eat's the orange like we do, but doesn't eat it all she says, and then I said why, she says well it's to sour for them. I couldn't stop laughing.

I just visited my Mom at her ALF for the first time last Sunday (she went in on Feb. 13). We went for a "walk" around the hallways, and when I pointed out some of the nice paintings she said "Oh, those are new." I cracked up (inside, of course, because I can't laugh AT her or she gets mad!). That is the sad beauty of this disease sometimes - everything is all new every day!
Don't hold back your laughter - it's the best therapy around! Gail |
