My family all think I have Alzheimer's but my husband says there's no point in getting a diagnosis because there's nothing they can do for you anyway. I feel I should find out if I really have it because the thought really concerns me.

Dear Carol G.,
Hello and welcome to our family here. Yes, you absolutely should seek a diagnosis! Please, make sure your doctor rules out any physical/emotional causes. Then, please see a neurologist. This is essential is getting the proper diagnosis. There are lots of tests to be done including neuropsychological testing. There are many things out there (medicatons etc.) to help people with ALZ. True, there aren't any cures yet, but they are working on it. There are medications that can slow the disease down alot! Start immediately working on your diagnosis. You may NOT have alz. It may be something else but you do need to find out! Good Luck Keep us posted. Peace and Hope, Lisa |

Please get checked as soon as possible, and as the previous person said, extensively. It is worth it. There is a list of problems that produce dementia like signs and symptoms, and tests can tell if any of them apply to you. Some can be treated. If you actually have Alz., you can make legal preparations for the rest of your life, if you haven't done so already. This is important because you are you now, and may be the most able you will be to make the decisions you really want. I think you are very wise for wanting to know. I know that I will want to know if I ever think I am beginning to have any of those types of problems.
Remember the answer might be yes, but it also might be that you do not have it. Good luck and God bless. Val-Re |
