Here's a poem I found several years ago about memory loss....something we've all experienced to one degree or another whether it's from stress, weariness or illness. I hope everyone enjoys it and can manage a giggle.
I CAN'T REMEMBER Just a line to say I'm living That I'm not among the dead, Though I'm getting more forgetful And mixed up in the head. I got used to my arthritis. To my dentures I'm resigned. I can manage my bifocals, But God, I miss my mind. For sometimes I can't remember When I stand at the foot of the stairs, If I must go up for something, Or have I just come down from there? And before the 'fridge so often, My poor mind is filled with doubt; Have I just put some food away, or Have I come to take some out? And there is time when it is dark With nightcap on my head . . . I don't know if I'm retiring, or Just getting out of bed. So, if it's my turn to write you, There's no need for getting sore. I may think that I have written And don't want to be a bore. So, remember that I love you And wish that you were near, But now it's nearly mail time so, I must say goodbye, Dear. There I stand beside the mailbox, With a face so very red . . . Instead of mailing you my letter, I'VE OPENED IT INSTEAD! Author, Anita Spoon. My husband and I picked up this poem when we visited Brothers New York Style Deli in Pompano Beach, Florida some years ago. |

Jennifer,
Thanks for the poem and the smile. I definitely can relate! I've been thinking of the old quote, "Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most!" a lot lately. I know that my mom is the one with AD -- but sometimes I think, gosh, if I'm her caretaker, she's in trouble Lori |

What a wonderful poem! My husband is slipping away fast and it is so hard to understand- I received the following poem in a Christmas card..THERE'S A REASON For every pain that we must bear; For every burden every care; There's a reason. For every grief, that bows the head, For every teardrop that is shed; There's a reason. For every hurt, For every lonely, pain racked night, There's a reason. But if we trust God as we should, It all will work out for our good...HE KNOWS THE REASON.
I hope this helps relieves just a little of the pain we are all feeling. This is undoubtly the most dreaded disease. Families and Caregivers need all the help they can get. Mary |

I was upset that it was being passed off as someone elses in a poetry site. Star lite cafe actually. by a poet named Seacloud. If anyone knows how to find the author and get her origianl copy rites would be abliged. but also was glad to find this site as my dad has altimers and know is hard for everyone. doreen doc_dyr |
