Forever Mom (Constanza)

With countenance of peace and light,
she sat in a familiar room,
an ebbing mind that did entomb.

Dolls and candy were Mom’s delight.
A girlish smirk, a burst of charm,
her days were spent away from harm.

Bravely she faced the losing fight;
heedless her ailment would advance,
and that renewal had no chance.

A scourge that no one would invite
had destroyed a luminous brain
yet there was not the slightest pain.

For soon she’d leave us from stage right.
Alzheimer’s odds are hard to beat
even for one who’s always sweet.
