Dear FC and Mum, Thank you so much. I am surprised by how well I am doing. The days before mom's death, when I knew she had given up were so hard, I think I did most of my grieving then. The waiting was so intense and so hard. Now I am feeling mostly relief that she is free of pain and her disabling body.
My sadness comes in waves, but it is a gentle sadness, not the overwhelming sadness I felt when dad died. I haven't thought about mom as a young, vibrant woman in so many years, and so many wonderful memories have just been popping into my head. It is as though I am celebrating her life before the disease found her. Thank you both for being so kind and caring. What brought us all here is not very pleasant, but meeting you has been a treasure in my life.

Dear Debbie,
I am so happy to hear you are finding comfort knowing that your mother is free from this awful disease. I read an obituary yesterday that said "he is finally free from the prison of Alzheimer's." That was a good way to put it.

You've been on my mind a lot and I was happy to see your post. I feel much the same - what a terrible way to meet, but what a wonderful blessing to have gotten to know so many loving people to help us along the way.

Take care of yourself and I wish you continued comfort and peace in the days ahead.
