REMEMBER

It’s getting worse and worse.
She is remembering less and less.
It's to the point that she can't cook,
She can't clean or do any household chores.
She mixes up little things
Such as names, faces, and ages
She forgets what she is doing
And she won’t finish.
She gets mad when you suggest it
Or just when you talk about it,
And even when you offer help.
She refuses to admit it
And strongly opposes seeing a doctor.
And I know that in time she will forget.
Forget it all, my name, my face, and my age.
But I won’t forget
Even after this disease takes her
I will never forget anything about her
From her name, her face, or her age.
To the way she lived
Or to the basketball games we played.
From the putt-putt and rounds of golf,
To the driving range or Crochet,
And all the lessons in golf and life,
From board games and the afternoon lunches,
To Birthdays and Thanksgiving dinners.
From church on Sunday mornings,
To the early bed times and early wake ups.
And if she remembers anything
I hope it's not a name, face or age,
But I hope she remembers she is loved.
That I love her now and then.
And no matter who or what she forgets
That we will always love her,
And that I will always remember her.
But I do have just one question:
How much time do we have left together?
