Hello. I am Reeta. This is my first time on this website, and I came here tonight because I am so very sad. My mom has been having memory problems for about 2 years now, and I have tried to make it due to anything I could rather than it be Alzheimer's.
I have been in the medical profession for 21 years, and although I have a significant amount of medical knowledge, I am no expert on this disease. I think I know how things "might" go, and it is all very overwhelming to me at this point in time. I keep thinking of my mother trapped within her mind and not able to tell me. And I think when she no longer recognizes me I will die....or feel like it. Any words of encouragement are welcomed here. Thanks, Reeta |

Welcome, Reeta. I'm so glad you found this website, although I'm so sorry for the reason.
Check out the caregivers forum -- most of us post there with our questions, concerns, sorrows, rants and raves, joys, comfort, support, encouragement..... This is a great group who are all familiar with the journey you now find yourself on. I will ask someone who knows how to post this message on the forum so more people will see it. Again, welcome, and may you find a small taste of peace here in cyberspace. "Some people think it is holding on that makes one strong.....sometimes it's letting go." |

Reeta--Welcome.
Noticed your post after seeing Karenlee's request that someone move it to the caregiver forum. Because everyone is so helpful and I want to prevent it from being posted multiple times there...I will move it at 1:20 unless I see it there already. According to my computer is it is currently 1:15 EDT. skericheri@yahoo.com |

Dear Reeta,
I've gone through what you are going through right now. My dad recognizes me some days and others he doesn't. It's a process you'll go through. Your main objective will be to make sure he is in the right facility, well taken care of, given as much love as you can. You will just ride the wave as the symptoms progress. It's hard but you just have to know you're not alone and that you're doing the right thing. |
